Cromford Canal - A Bit Muggy ~ 20/06/26

Image
Afternoon!  We went for a walk today around Cromford Canal! We frequently go to Matlock and Castleton, have been doing it for years and we occasionally pop off at Cromford Mills for a little mooch around...However, we've never been on a walk around the Canal before and it was lovely...although a bit muggy (Humid). We set off quite late today, around 12pm, picked up Sam's Dad who came along for the walk which was lovely and off we went, mind you we didn't go our normal route and ended up going down the M1 which turned out to be a much longer drive to get there!  We parked up at Cromford Mills and then off we went down the canal, there were these mysterious colourful dinosaurs planted along the canal, which we could only assume we're placed there by the Narrow Boaters & Canoe gliders...all the while it made some interesting snaps!     We reached a halfway point and stopped off at High Peak Junction, where we had a snack and something to dri...

Lud's Church - A Mythical Paradise ~ 13/06/26

Hello!  Our first proper hike of the year took us to Lud's Church in Staffordshire, just past Castleton.  We woke up bright and early, though there was a slight delay in setting off (we needed to care for our little Tortoise beforehand!) We eventually hit the road and listened to some music along the way whilst chatting, there were some beautiful views - as always out in the Peak District, and the weather was overcast but not too cold or damp - A success if you as me!  We managed to get parked up at the top, on Kevin Hill near The Roaches starting point (something we want to go back and tick off) the parking wasn't too bad, a first come first serve situation but completely free.  We then started the walk along the top of The Roaches and had a quick stop to look at the view, then made our way back down to the right onto Lud's Church. The terrain was steep in some places but we managed!  There was a massive crack in the surface all the way down, which has some coo...

Welcome to Take a Hike!

Hi and welcome to our little blog!  Our names are Emma and Sam and we're avid walkers but somewhere in the last couple of years, things got heavy and life was lifing and we just needed to get back on track! We have been together for 14 years and we wouldn't have it any other way. We went for a lovely walk recently last weekend and we loved getting back out there, what was supposed to be a little walk ended up being a 4 mile hike but we fell in love with it all over again! So we created this little space on the interweb! Just somewhere to track our journeys and look back with fond memories!  So follow along for little snippets and travels, hopefully they'll be in different countries too! We're currently planning to do the North Coast 500 in 2027 as well as collecting the patches from Peak District site so stay tuned.  Happy Hiking :) Emma & Sam
